The Journey Behind Starborn Alive

All great stories begin somewhere. For me, it started in a small village in the southern part of Sweden, in an old house filled with books, music, and dreams of distant worlds. Growing up in a large family, creativity was encouraged—whether it was music, drawing, or making things with my hands. Music played a central role in my childhood, with piano, guitar, and choir singing shaping much of my early years. Before I could even read, my father would create impromptu stories for me and my siblings. Soon, though, it was just the two of us, reading together—starting with C.S. Lewis’s Narnia and J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, and later The Lord of the Rings. As the books grew longer, it became a special bond between my father and me, finishing those epic tales together.

Fantasy and science fiction quickly became my favorite genres. The vast, unexplored worlds fascinated me, and I would often daydream about far-off galaxies. When I was twelve, we got our first computer—a rarity in Sweden in 1979. It was early by any standard. What started as a pastime playing games soon evolved into modifying them. Eventually, I was creating my own games—often centered around space exploration and the mysteries of the cosmos. Even back then, I was already drawn to crafting stories, writing lyrics, and trying my hand at novel writing. I loved building the structures of these narratives, though the details always seemed to take the most time.

As I grew, my education wasn’t a straight path. While I excelled in creative subjects like music and art, I struggled in others. After spending two years in technical studies, I shifted gears and attended a folk high school where I spent another two years studying music. I later pursued studies in media, literature, political history, English, and pedagogy, eventually earning a Bachelor’s in Media and Education. This eclectic academic journey has shaped the way I approach storytelling, giving me a broad perspective on human behavior, history, and society.

In my professional career, I’ve worked on a wide range of media projects—from commercials to films—and contributed to the animated feature Beyond Beyond (Copenhagen-Bombay). But it wasn’t until I started teaching that I found my true calling. Since 2009, I’ve shared my passion for film production and storytelling with students, helping them develop their own creative paths.

At the turn of the millennium, I began sketching out what would later become Starborn Alive. Initially conceived as a film script, I even filmed a teaser with some of my students in 2010. However, looking back, I realize that the story was far from complete. Over time, the manuscript evolved into something much larger. What began as a script eventually transformed into a novel, and what started as a singular vision has now expanded into plans for a series, with potential adaptations for TV.

Starborn Alive represents the culmination of over two decades of creative work. The first book in the series is set to be released on September 19, 2025, and I’m excited to finally share it with you. But there’s so much more to come.

The universe I’ve created is full of challenges, deep moral dilemmas, and characters you will come to care about—as I do. It’s a world where survival is uncertain, but hope always finds a way to shine through. And this is just the beginning. With Starborn Alive part one, the adventure into humanity’s future—and the struggle for survival in a galaxy on the brink—has only just started. I can’t wait to share the next chapters of this journey with you.
