COUNTDOWN: Day 27

Why I Chose to Split the First Book in Two

Some months ago, when I thought I had finished Starborn Alive—the first book in a saga that will span at least seven volumes—I envisioned it as a single epic debut novel. But as the manuscript continued to grow, I realized that publishing it in one massive volume wasn’t the best choice.

One important reason is practical: a book of over 650 pages would have been very costly to print, which in turn would make the price uncomfortably high for a first release by a new author. By dividing it into two volumes, I can keep the books more accessible—both to hold in your hands and to afford.

Another reason is timing. Splitting the book allows me to release the e-book, print edition, and audiobook simultaneously. That way, readers can choose the format that suits them best right from the start.

The story itself also grew in the process. During the final adjustments, I expanded certain parts—such as Nova’s relationship with her father—to give the characters and their journeys greater depth. The result is a richer experience that deserves more space than a single volume could provide.

And there’s a silver lining: you won’t have to wait long for the continuation. Book 2 is already in the pipeline and is planned for release just a few months after Book 1—right in time for Christmas.

So while Starborn Alive began as one, it now launches as two. Two volumes, one after the other, opening the door to a much larger universe still to come.
