Day 20: New City – the Shadows of Civilization

While the orbital colonies gleam with glass, steel, and carefully maintained order, New City festers in the dark. Once built as a thriving hub near the Arctic Circle, it was founded in an age when humanity still believed it could halt global warming and restore the planet’s balance. That dream is long gone.

Now, Earth’s surface is scarred by storms, deserts, and rising seas. Most cities stand like gravestones over a time when the planet could sustain life. But New City endures — not as a beacon, but as a ruin still inhabited. A place abandoned by authority, where the desperate cling to survival and crime rules in the absence of law.

Neon lights flicker over broken streets. Gangs and outcasts thrive where governments fled. Violence has become the only currency, and dawn itself is uncertain.

It is through this collapsing underground world that Nova and Amalie must move — a city where every shadow hides danger, and where even survival can feel like victory.

New City is Babylon reborn: a reminder that when the stars shine above, there will always be shadows below.
